North West of England pipe band
Can I stay with my current band and join the City of Liverpool Pipe Band?
Yes, we have no problem, and several of our players do just that. It is our intention to be a vibrant part of the local pipe band community and we welcome opportunities for both our members and band to integrate into the local scene. But if you wish to play with the City of Liverpool Pipes & Drums Pipe at a competitive level you will need to register with the RSPBA on our playing roster. However, you cannot be a voting member of our band if you are a committee member of another and will be given 'guest' player status instead. Please be up front about your interests - it avoids embarrassing situations in the future.

Will you teach me?
Yes - but you have to practice regularly. The three secrets to becoming a good player are 'practice, practice, practice'.

I just want to have a 'look before I join', is that OK?
We understand that ... and you are more than welcome to one of our practices. You might also want to get together informally with either our pipe major or leading drummer prior to coming along. But you won't be able to play at a practice until you indicate you wish to become a member or play with us 'on trial' - because we have structured practices.
If you are seriously thinking about joining and want to join in while you are thinking of making a final commitment, then you can - but you will be treated as a 'trial' member on the same basis as any of our other members and are expected to have your instrument to our required standard, play our tunes and also accept our playing routine.

I'm in town on a temporary basis, can I play with you?
Yes, of course. All of the other comments apply and you may or not be able to manage competitions or parades/shows - it really depends on your ability level and your own attitude.

How do I join?
We have no formal 'sign up' process; instead we'll just talk things over, check your standard and then discuss your playing options. You'll be invited to play with us at a few practices during which time we'll be able to have a look at you and your playing - if you like us and we like you then the pipe major will have your membership ratified by the committee. You will then be given an RSPBA registration form. It is as easy as that.
